Alpacas

Our alpacas

We work continuously to breed the healthiest and most prosperous alpacas. We have had a maximum of 146 alpacas at the same time on the farm and over the years we have given birth to 127 criors (babies) and more are expected to come next year. With us, you can feel safe buying healthy, social and curious alpacas in different colors and ages.

How do we do this?

Many years of experience that we have built up here at Norrängens Alpacka gives us the knowledge about these magical animals. The knowledge comes from the fact that we have a genuine interest in these animals which are not yet the most common in Sweden and thus that knowledge does not exist in many. Everything we do is on the animals' terms and for their best condition! We love alpacas.

We here on the farm have and arrange training for veterinarians, students and alpaca owners in Sweden. Trainings are held by the world's most experienced veterinarians in alpacas, e.g. veterinarians from England, Australia, Peru & Dubai. They have shared their knowledge with us through various studies we conducted on the farm and a number of lectures.

Among others Claire E Whitehead BVM & S MS FHEA MRCVS, from England who studied alpacas for many years. ukalpacavet.com

Norrängen's alpaca is always available for veterinarians or students so that we can spread the knowledge to more people. An important point in our breeding.

    About alpacas

The alpaca is a camel, originally from the Andes, and is related to the llama. It is a distinct herd animal and therefore always lives with other alpacas.
With 22 different basic colors, the alpaca is the most colorful wool-producing animal in the world. The wool is non-allergenic and completely free of fat. As it is three times stronger and seven times warmer than sheep wool, alpaca wool is really popular and is also said to be one of the world's finest wool.

Alpacas are calm and have a very good sight and hearing. Maybe that's why they seem to have a feeling for the needs of others and are curious about new surroundings and people.
Spending time with animals makes us humans feel better. It is considered to have a positive effect on both heart rate and blood pressure. When in contact with animals, the stress hormone cortisol decreases and the activity of the hormone oxytocin increases, which among other things reduces aggression and anxiety.

For a long time, alpacas have been considered perfect therapy animals as they, with their pleasant character, light up the day for both children and adults. Somehow they make us relax, perhaps because they prefer to hang out with someone who is controlled, can handle the mood and move in a calm and sane way. If you are stressed or ill, a stay around alpacas can make you forget everything for a while and make you relax and feel better. Even healthy people naturally feel good about meeting these soft and lovely animals.

As alpaca owners, we are very happy to let other people take part in these incredibly wonderful creatures.
